Luis Gonzalez collected other people’s memories for his “IN VITRO” art project. In collaboration with Wilhelm Perfume, the artist captured various “memory scents” and documented the histories behind them. One strong memory originated from someone whose parents had died: This person was staying on holiday with their grandparents and was just about to collect their parents from town to join them. Before departure, they decorated the garden and house with lots of flowers. Upon reaching the town, they found out that the parents had been killed in a tragic accident. A week later, they returned to the grandparents’ house where the intensive scent of the wilted flowers met them. Since then, the smell of flowers is inseparably associated with the death of the parents.
